Mistakes to avoid

Everyday maintenance mistakes that shorten the life of an epoxy floor

Even a well-installed floor can be worn down by abrasive cleaning, dragged equipment and spills left sitting too long.

The short version

Simple, consistent care protects the topcoat. The biggest mistake is usually using a harsh shortcut or ignoring a problem until it becomes visible.

Mistake 1: using the strongest cleaner available

More aggressive does not mean more effective. Strong solvents, acidic products and abrasive pads can dull or damage the protective layer, particularly when used repeatedly or at the wrong concentration.

Use the care advice for the actual system installed and test an unfamiliar product in a discreet area before committing to it.

Mistake 2: allowing grit to stay on the floor

Grit acts like an abrasive under feet, tyres and equipment. Regular sweeping or dust removal is one of the simplest ways to reduce unnecessary wear, especially at external entries and in garages.

Mistake 3: dragging heavy or sharp items

A resin floor is durable, not indestructible. Dragging steel shelving, machinery, tools or unprotected furniture can scratch the surface or damage edges. Lift items where possible and use suitable protective pads when a change of layout is planned.

Mistake 4: ignoring spills and small damage

Oil, chemicals and automotive fluids should be cleaned promptly using an appropriate method. Small chips, worn areas or changes in gloss should also be discussed before the damage spreads or the substrate is exposed.

When to contact a professional

Contact the installer if the floor develops bubbling, peeling, persistent cloudiness, widespread wear or damage that keeps returning after cleaning. Avoid coating over a problem without understanding the cause. A professional can identify whether the issue is maintenance, impact, moisture, movement or a failing layer.
